Ex Mayor of Polop formally charged with influence peddling: "court investigating alleged planning irregularities in Polop de la Marina, a case which arose in investigations into the murder of the town’s former Mayor, Alejandro Ponsoda, has charged Ponsoda’s successor with influence peddling.

Juan Cano took over the position after Ponsoda’s death and is one of seven suspects charged with his murder. He appeared before Court No. 3 in Villajoyosa on Tuesday, where he was questioned for more than two hours and was formally charged by the judge. El País reports that he is under investigation for the sale of a plot of land at the end of 2005 which he had bought the year before for 7,500 €. He is reported to have sold it on for 290,000 €."
