"It is a year since the four Spanish civil guards
landed on Gibraltar. Spanish reports yesterday said that no action had been taken by the Spanish authorities against them.
It will be recalled that the Spanish interior minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba late on that night telephoned the Chief Minister Peter Caruana and offered his apologies for the 'incorrect action' taken by the Spanish Guardia Civil officers, who had earlier been detained by Gibraltar police for entering Gibraltar waters and landing in the port area, in pursuit of a Spanish fast launch with two men onboard.
Interior ministry said then that Caruana had accepted the apologies and that they hoped the matter would be resolved shortly.
Shortly thereafter, the Gibraltar police said the four Guardia Civil officers had been released."
