GUARDIA CIVIL are investigatiing an attempted bank robbery in Ciudad Quesada, Rojales. In the early hours of last Saturday, the security alarms of all the banks in the town went off, one after another, puzzling the Local Police and the Guardia Civil. Just hours earlier, someone had set fire to a phone installation, presumably in the hope that this would make the police believe it led to an error with the alarms.
The heist was risky, as the bank is located amongst the local urbanizations, almost three kilometres from the Crevillente-Cartagena motorway, making the escape more complicated.
The robbers created a hole in the wall of a corridor to enter the bank, and then waited for the commotion to lead the police elsewhere.
However, this didn’t help them much, and it appears that the tools they were using weren’t very good, because they had to leave the safe with the money behind.
When the bank opened on Monday, they found the damage that was caused, but the safe was still in place.
The police don’t believe that this well-planned robbery was committed by the same gang who blew more than 100 safes at a bank in Elche just weeks ago, because they are more likely to have fled the area.
