56 year old Carmelo A.C.M. from Argentina was wanted on a US international arrest warrant issued through Interpol for drug offences committed over a period of 20 months between 1987 and 1988. El Mundo newspaper reports that he is believed to be a member of a gang of drug smugglers which attempted to smuggle 1.3 tons of cocaine into the U.S.
The cargo was found hidden in cases of canned anchovies which had been shipped to port in Philadelphia on a ship from Mar del Plata, Argentina.
